Foundation and History
The Windsor Castle Chapter No. 252 has recently celebrated its centenary meeting, having been consecrated on 6th November 1925, the Chapter is very aptly named as its next-door neighbour is Windsor Castle itself. Not only is the Chapter fortunate to meet in the Historic Town of Windsor but it is also privileged to meet in one the oldest and most beautiful Masonic Centres in Berkshire. Windsor Masonic Centre is the ideal setting for the practice of the Rose Croix Ritual, it has the meeting room, a dark room, an anti-room and an intermediate room, perfect for its ceremonies.
The ritual of Rose Croix is based on the Christian celebration of Easter and the belief in the resurrection, the Order of Rose Croix has changed very little in the 100 years that have passed since Windsor Castle Chapter Rose Croix was consecrated, it is only in the last year that it has seen one of the biggest changes to the fundamental doctrines of the Order, it is the admittance of members of all faiths.
Purpose and Activities
When new candidates join the order they are Perfected and promoted to the 18°, adding 15 Degrees to the three degrees of Craft Masonry which they already have. Their journey to higher degrees is accomplished by progressing through the offices of the Chapter and delivering all the ritual that is demanded of them.
This journey takes several years of dedication to the learning of the Ritual and a member will in time reach the 30th degree but only by completing all the work in all the offices including serving as the Most Wise Sovereign of the Chapter he is then recommended by his predecessors to receive his promotion to the 30th Degree.
Membership and Leadership
The members of the Order of the Rose Croix are those who seek enlightenment by passing from darkness to light, it is often referred to as a Beautiful Order, which is very apt. The leadership of the Order is very simple, unlike other orders, instead of Provinces we have Districts which are run by an Inspector General and a District Recorder who are only answerable to the Supreme Council. The Inspector General, accompanied by the District Recorder attends every meeting , this is real hands-on leadership and is always ready to help and support every Chapter and its members within the District of Berkshire.
Traditions and Distinctive Features
The Order of the Rose Croix has only one Ritual Book, unlike like other orders every meeting in every District is the same, the same Regalia at all meetings and all meetings are conducted in the same manner, giving universality to the order, finally our order is founded on the tradition of joining together in fidelity and friendship to offer hospitality and acceptance..
Meeting Details
The Windsor Castle Chapter No. 252 meets in the Windsor Masonic Centre which it has done for the last 100 years, on the 1st Thursday in the months of February, May and November which is the Enthronement meeting. The Chapter Dines in the Castle Hotel in Windsor which offers the Chapter elegant surroundings and fine dining it so deserves
