Foundation and History

Sinodun Chapter Rose Croix No 548 is the 4^th of nine Chapters in the Berkshire District. The consecration ceremony took place on the 7^th November 1960 at The Guildhall Abingdon. The name Sinodun is derived from the old Celtic name ‘Seno-Dunum’ which means old fort. A local landmark known as the Wittenham Clumps is part of the Sinodun Hills which has alternate names including the Berkshire Bubs or Mother Dunch’s Buttocks. Among the legends surrounding the Clumps is the location of a Money Pit, concealing a vast treasure guarded by a black raven.
