Foundation and History
The Bombay Croix Chapter No. 18 is the oldest of the nine Berkshire Rose Croix Chapters. Its Consecration Ceremony took place at Cumballa Hill, Bombay, India on 18th December 1868.
Bombay Chapter celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018 when a history of the chapter was produced by Ill Bro Graham McGowan-Smyth 32º. The Chapter had the honour of Perfecting the very first non-Christian under the new working when we Perfected Excellent and Perfect Bro Mickey Labana 18 º on 1st March 2024.
Purpose and Activities
Bombay Chapter Rose Croix is part of the Ancient and Accepted Rite, conferring the 18th Degree, known as Knight Rose Croix. The Chapter focuses on the philosophical and spiritual teachings of Freemasonry, emphasizing virtues such as faith, hope, charity, and the pursuit of truth and wisdom.
Meetings typically include ceremonies, lectures, and social gatherings. The Chapter is known for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to brotherly love, tolerance, and personal growth.
Membership and Leadership
Membership is open to qualified Freemasons. The Chapter has a history of distinguished members and officers, with roles including Most Wise Sovereign, Prelate, Treasurer, Recorder, Director of Ceremonies, Almoner, Marshal, and others.
Traditions and Distinctive Features
Dress Code:
Members wear a red collar, not aprons or gloves as in Craft Masonry. The dress code is a dark suit, but not black tie.
Ceremonial Focus:
The Chapter places a strong emphasis on ritual, symbolism, and the moral lessons of the Rose Croix degree.
Community:
The Chapter is known for its supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging members to participate in both ritual and social aspects of Chapter life.
Meeting Details
Bombay Chapter No. 18 meets at the Masonic Centre, Mole Road, Sindlesham, Berkshire, RG41 5EA.
Meetings are held on the first Friday in March, a morning meeting, the fourth Friday in May, and the fourth Friday in September.
Enthronement is held at the September meeting.
